REAL POWER: MAXING OUT ON GOD'S LOVE |

COUNT YOUR BLESSING OR YOUR BLESSINGS
DON'T COUNT
The Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia is
one of the largest sand deserts in the world. In the southwestern
Empty Quarter, rows of sand dunes stretch for hundreds of miles. Some
of the dunes are more than five hundred feet high. The spectacular
sandy vistas extend to the horizon in all directions, and driving in
the dunes is an unforgettable adventure. Every time you drive down a
steep hundred foot slip face, you experience a thrill that keeps you
coming back for more.
When I do expeditionary travel in the
Empty Quarter, I take my preparations seriously. If I am heading out
on a nine day trip into deep desert, I fill my long range fuel tanks
as well as thirteen jerry cans. My total fuel load is about four
hundred and ten liters of fuel for a long trip. In addition, I carry
two hundred liters of water in plastic bottles. Although that may
seem like a great deal of fuel and water, when you explore deep
desert, you cannot carry too much fuel or water. If you run out of
either, you may die.
The only way to survive a trip into
remote sections of the Empty Quarter is through good preparation.
Most of the Empty Quarter is uninhabited. If you have a problem,
there will be no one to help you. Consequently, we always travel with
at least three expeditionary vehicles in our group, and we carry
several thousand dollars worth of spare parts to make sure we don’t
have to leave a broken-down vehicle in the desert. Preparation is the
key to survival. Survival isn’t an accident. It’s something you do
on purpose. The stark beauty of the desert reminds you of an equally
stark reality. If you are not prepared to survive, be prepared to
die.

FILL YOUR MENTAL FUEL TANKS
Your journey through life is like
making a trip into the Empty Quarter. You need to fill your mental
fuel tanks so you have sufficient resources for the trip.
No one would head into the desert
without a full load of fuel and water. Nevertheless, millions of
people start their daily journey without any fuel in their mental fuel
tanks, and they act surprised when they run out of gas.

The easiest way to fill your mental
tanks is to count your blessings when you wake up each morning. Each
blessing that you count puts more fuel into your mental tanks. You
need to count your blessings until your tanks are full.

Most people don’t think about their
blessings. Consequently, they are always running out of fuel.
Blessings don’t automatically flow into your mind. You must put them
there.

THE LAW OF BLESSINGS
The Law of Blessings states:
Count your blessings or your blessings don’t count.
If you don’t count a blessing, then
for you, that blessing doesn’t count. For all practical purposes, it
doesn’t exist. You will not recognize it as being present.
Each day you need to remind yourself
of your blessings, or you will forget they are there.
THE SPREADSHEET OF LIFE
For most people, the spreadsheet of
life doesn’t contain blessings. The rows and columns on their
spreadsheet are either empty or filled with problems.
You need to check your spreadsheet to
see if you are counting your blessings or problems. Most people are
experts at counting their problems and never get around to counting
their blessings.
As I sailed across the Pacific Ocean
on my yacht, I visited dozens of remote islands and atolls where
people lived at a subsistence level. I met hundreds of people who had
nothing except happiness. They didn’t have many earthly possessions;
nevertheless, they were happy, because they counted their blessings.
When I lived in the world of large
villas, luxury cars, and unrestrained desire, I knew many people who
had everything except happiness. They were afflicted with a disease
called “more”. Their mental tanks were continually empty because
they never counted their blessings.

MAKE YOUR PROBLEMS SHRINK
When you count your blessings, your
problems shrink, and soon you forget they exist.
When you count your problems, your
blessings shrink, and soon you forget that they are there.
When you get up in the morning, you
decide whether you are going to count your blessings or your
problems. That decision sets the tone for the entire day. If you
want to fill your mental fuel tanks, you must turn on your Good Finder
and discover all the good things in your life.
