REAL POWER: MAXING OUT ON GOD'S LOVE |

DECISION CHECK
The fourth letter in the checklist is
D which stands for decisions. Each day you have to make important
decisions, and this check focuses on the criteria you use to make
those decisions.
The decision check is simple. You
need to answer only one question. When you make your decisions today,
are you going to do the legal thing, the right thing, or the loving
thing?
Most people always do the legal
thing, usually do the right thing, and sometimes do the loving thing.
People who are alive spiritually know that this is doing things
backwards and that you should always do the loving thing. Usually the
loving thing is both legal and right, but the reverse often is not
true.

If you choose to do the legal thing,
you will be walking on thin spiritual ice. A crafty lawyer can
figure out a way for you to do almost anything you want, irrespective
of whether it’s right or wrong, and the question of whether it’s
loving is never considered. If your sole criteria for making
decisions is whether it’s within the letter of the law, right and
wrong become irrelevant, and you quickly get into spiritual
difficulty. Your spirit will wither and die as lawyers show you how
to walk the broad path that leads to spiritual destruction. Remember,
lawyers are not spiritual advisors, and if you follow their advice,
you will do it at great peril to your spirit.
If you choose to do the right thing,
you still are treading on dangerous ground. Doing what you believe to
be the right thing can lead you onto the slippery slope of
self-righteousness. Saying you are going to do the right thing has a
good sound and feel. What could possibly be wrong with always doing
the right thing?
Problems arise because people have a
different understanding of right and wrong. It’s a small world with a
multitude of competing belief systems. People, who believe they are
right, kill each other every day. It’s an eye for an eye and a tooth
for a tooth world out there, and doing the right thing allows you to
do horrible things to people who have different politics and religion
than you. Suicide bombers believe they are doing the right thing.
Genocide and wars continue for hundreds of years because people
believe their cause is righteous.
Sooner or later, people who believe
they are right fall into the trap of self-righteousness. This
approach divides the world into two groups of people. Everyone who
agrees with you is right, and everyone who disagrees is wrong. Making
decisions based on the criteria of whether they are right or wrong is
riddled with problems.
If you choose to do the loving thing,
you will navigate effortlessly through the moral universe. People who
have a personal relationship with God based on love know that doing
the loving thing is the way they are meant to live. Love is the
source of their life and is the power of God at work in the world.
They want to be a part of God’s work. They believe that God’s heart
of love is their heart, and God’s arms of love are their arms. God
has filled their heart with his love, and they want to pass it on to
other people by doing the loving thing.

Choosing to do the loving thing is
usually straightforward. You don’t need lawyers to parse the truth
for you and tell you about love. If you can’t figure out what is the
loving thing, you can ask a five year old child, and he or she will
easily tell you.

If you always do the loving thing,
your spirit will grow strong in the power of God’s love, and your
mistakes will be few and far between. If you do the legal thing, few
people will criticize you. If you do the right thing, most people
will applaud. If you do the loving thing, God will say well done, and
the world will be a better place because you were here.

ELIMINATE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
The fifth letter in the checklist is
E which stands for eliminating negativity from your heart and mind.
Most people have a hard time eliminating negative thoughts. The
reason it’s so difficult is because the power of focus works against
you when you think negative thoughts. A negative focus causes
negative thoughts to grow more powerful and to proliferate. Unless
you change your focus, you lose the battle for a positive mind.
You can’t afford to start the morning
with a mind full of negative thoughts. They are the kiss of death for
a positive day. If you wake up with negative thoughts blowing through
your mind, you need to take immediate action to eliminate them.
Negative thoughts will not go away by
themselves. Only positive action will make them leave. Arguing with
them will not help; it will just make them grow stronger. The only
way to beat them is to shift your focus in a new direction, and you
can do this many different ways. Physical exercise almost always
helps dispel negative thoughts. Even without exercise, there are
others things you can do to push your mind in a positive direction.
You can flip through your Power Graphics to give your mind a positive
boost.
The most sensible thing to do is to
immediately pull out all stops and shift your focus to the most
powerful force in the universe, God’s love. When you shift your focus
to God’s love, negative thinking heads for the emergency exit, and
your mind moves in a positive direction. God’s love is real power,
and negative thoughts can never survive in a heart full of his love.
Repeat the following positive
affirmation to decapitate the negative thoughts that poke their ugly
heads into your heart and mind:
“God is love and works by love. The
power and presence of God in my life is love. God loves and accepts
me the way I am, but He loves me too much to let me stay that way. He
loves me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes, and it doesn’t
get any better than that. His love pushes negative thoughts from my
mind and gives me a clean mind and a pure heart. There is no limit to
how good my life can become when my heart and mind are full of God’s
love. I will max out on God’s love.”
This affirmation radically shifts
your focus in a positive direction. After eliminating negative
thoughts, you are ready to move on to the forgiveness check.
