REAL POWER: MAXING OUT ON GOD'S LOVE |
DON’T LET OTHER PEOPLE
FORCE YOU INTO THEIR SPIRITUAL MOLD
Your relationship with God is a
personal thing, and it’s going to be different for you than it will be
for other people. God made you different from everyone else, and your
relationship with him is going to be different as well. It’s not my
relationship or someone else’s relationship. It’s yours. When God
made you, he threw away the mold. Your relationship with him will be
personal and unique.
Don’t let anyone force you into their
spiritual mold. You will not fit, and you will be miserable if you
try to be like them and have a spiritual relationship that duplicates
theirs. If God wanted all of us to be the same, He would have made us
all the same. We would all be clones. He didn’t do it, and you
shouldn’t try to do it either.
The best way to find out who you are
and what you can do with your life is to listen to the voice of your
Father. He will tell you everything you need to know. Just open your
heart and let him teach you how to max out on his love.
FIVE STEPS FOR
SPIRITUAL AWAKENING
Would like to come alive
spiritually? Here are five simple steps you can take if you want to
be born spiritually. If you follow these steps, you will be headed in
the right direction.
1. You
must believe there is a God.
Obviously, you must believe God exists. You can’t have a relationship
with God if He doesn’t exist.
2. You
must believe that God loves you and wants to have a personal
relationship with you based on love.
God isn’t an impersonal Creator who made the universe and walked
away. God is interested in you and wants to connect with you on a
personal level.
3. You
must open your heart to God’s love.
God will not cram his love down your throat. He will not beat you
into submission with fear and coercion. This is a voluntary thing.
It’s up to you, and the only way for it to happen is for you to open
your heart to his love.
4. You
must dare to call God your Father.
When you allow God’s love in your heart and mind, you come alive
spiritually, and God becomes your Father.
5. You
must adopt a new way of thinking, feeling, and acting in order to have
a new life. You must make
a U-turn in the way that you think and live. The Bible calls this
repentance. If you continue to think the same old thoughts and take
the same old actions, you will have the same old life. The Bible says
that you must be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Your old
way of thinking, feeling, and acting are history. You have an
entirely new way of looking at yourself and at your world.
These five steps are the bare-bones
minimum; they are a starting point on your journey of faith. There is
much more to having a relationship with God than just these five
points. This is only the beginning. You need to hear what Jesus said
about himself and about his Father in order to grow spiritually and
become a mature child of God.
Theologians and spiritual leaders can
teach you many wonderful things about what it means to have a
relationship with God, and they may even give some good explanations
of how it happens. But don’t wait around for their explanations
before you open your heart to God’s love. And don’t be disappointed
if some of their explanations seem confusing because they confuse
other people too.
LAND ROVERS, HUMMERS,
AND GOD’S LOVE
I have a confession to make. I don’t
know how Land Rovers, Hummers, and God’s love work. But even though I
don’t understand them, they have given me a great ride.
When I put my foot on the accelerator
of my Land Rover truck, it zooms up the sand dunes without me
understanding how it happens. I can put my truck through all of its
paces and not understand anything about connecting rods, camshafts,
torque converters, or transmissions. If I had to understand my Land
Rover before I could experience it, I would never have gone for a
ride.
That’s how it is with God’s love. I
would rather experience it than spend long hours trying to study and
understand how it works. I have read the Bible from cover to cover,
and I still don’t completely understand how God’s love works. I have
read many books on theology, and still things aren’t perfectly clear.
Nevertheless, that hasn’t prevented me from experiencing God’s love,
and it shouldn’t stop you either. God never demanded that I
understand his love or explain exactly how it works. The important
thing is that I experience it.
ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH
If you are never born spiritually,
you will miss out on God’s plan for your life, and you will never
experience the power of his love. Being born once is not enough.
Real life begins when you are born
again. When you open your heart to his love and dare to call God your
Father, you become a new person and your life is never the same.
Affirmation:
Jesus said that I must be born again. Once is not enough. God is a
Spirit, and He is the one who makes my spirit come alive. That is why
I call him Father. There are no preconditions to having a
relationship with God. As soon as I open my heart to his love and
call him Father, He does the rest.
