A PURE HEART ISN’T A
LUXURY
Having a pure heart isn’t a luxury
that can only be enjoyed by a few people like Mother Theresa. A pure
heart is for everyone who wants to experience wholeness. It should be
the normal state of affairs in both your heart and mind. It’s the way
God intended for your heart and mind to be.
When you see a newborn baby, you see
a heart that doesn’t contain even one molecule of toxic waste. God
gave that baby a clean mind and a pure heart. Nevertheless, it
doesn’t take long to ruin this gift. When that child is only a couple
of years old, television and videos will start dumping the garbage
in. By the time he is twenty years old, the dastardly deed will be
done. His clean mind and pure heart will be gone. He will be blind
spiritually and lose his ability to see God.
When I raised my children, one of my
goals was to get them to eighteen years of age with a clean mind and
pure heart. If it was up to me, they would enter adulthood with the
ability to see God at work in their world.
In our home we didn’t use bad
language, and we didn’t allow the toxic waste of Hollywood to come
into our living room. Now that my children have grown up, it’s up to
them to keep a clean mind and pure heart. If they want to see God,
they will have to refrain from polluting their heart and mind with
toxic waste.
DON’T BE A FOOL
If you think that you can fill your
mind with the violent and negative images found in the movies and
television, and keep a clean mind and pure heart, you are making a
serious mistake. You are a fool. You are swimming upstream against a
raging torrent of toxic waste. You can’t put toxic waste into your
mind and expect to stay clean on the inside. It’s impossible.
If you think that you can let your
children put sewage into their mind without suffering negative
fallout, you are not competent to be a parent. It’s your
responsibility to see that your children have a clean mind and pure
heart. If you don’t do it, you will fail in your responsibility as a
parent. Your children would be better off if you gave them up for
adoption to someone who would put good things into their mind.
The battle for the control of your
mind comes down to your mental focus and to what you put into it. If you spend ten minutes a
day talking with God and five hours a day putting toxic waste into
your mind, don’t be surprised when your spiritual vision becomes dim.
Don’t be surprised when you can no longer see God. You are stacking
the odds massively against yourself when you do this. You have thirty
times more chance of going spiritually blind than you do of seeing God
at work in your world. Those odds guarantee that inner pollution will
soon dominate your heart and mind. You are drinking a cup of poison,
and the odds of your spiritual survival diminish with each new dose
you ingest. If you want to be able to see God at work in your world,
you must have a pure heart. There is no other way.
TAKING THE CURE
Once your mind is full of toxic
waste, you are in trouble. If you continue in that state, your
ability to see God will progressively diminish until you become
spiritually blind. God’s presence will become a faint memory.
Fortunately, there’s a cure for
spiritual blindness. God can remove the toxic waste and restore your
inner vision through the power of his love. Your inner pollution will
be washed away as God’s love rolls through your heart and mind.
If you want to have a clean mind and
a pure heart, you must do two things.
First, you must open your heart to
God’s love every day, all day long. You must be in continual
fellowship with him so his love can work its miracle non-stop in your
heart and mind.
Second, you must stop putting toxic
waste into your mind. This isn’t optional. If you continue to load
your mind with sewage, you are only fooling yourself. Your life will
not improve, and spiritual blindness will be your destiny.
You deserve to have twenty-twenty
spiritual vision. Open your heart to God’s love and let the healing
begin. There is no limit to how good your life can become when you
have a clean mind and a pure heart. You actually have the privilege
of seeing God at work in your world.
Affirmation:
The pure in heart have a special blessing. They are able to see God.
If I am having difficulty seeing God at work in my life, I am probably
carrying a massive load of toxic waste in my heart and mind. If I
continue on that course, my ability to see God will progressively
diminish until I become spiritually blind. If I want to have a clean
mind and a pure heart, I must do two things. First, I must open my
heart to God’s love every day, all day long. Second, I must stop
putting toxic waste into my mind. When I have a clean mind and a pure
heart, there is no limit to how good my life can become. I have
twenty-twenty spiritual vision, and I see God at work in my world.
